The Utrecht treaty of 11 April 1713 was the last event of the succession war. The treaty established that Vittorio Amedeo II became king of Siciliy (he was the cousin of Anna Queen of England) so she protected the Mediterranean from the attacks of  the Spanish and French.

When the Queen died, the English were less interested in the Mediterranean affair so Vittorio Amedeo II began to feel unsure, also due to the fact that the Sicilian people were not very happy with their king, they want him with a Sicilian mentality.

Vittorio Amedeo II instead, imposed Piedmontese usage and customs responsabilities to take advantage of Vittorio Amedeo II inconveniences, Filippo V of Spain sent a fleet to Sicily to retake his jewel: the Sicily.

England didn’t like this action so the English sent fleet to Sicily and defeated the Spanish fleet. England tried to put again on the throne Amedeo II, but he didn’t want it, so Sicily was given to Charles IV of Austria.
