When in 1733 the king of Poland died, a war broke out for the throne’s succession. Carlo III of Borbone took advantage of it, infact he conquered the territory of Naples and Sicily, after the peace of Vienna.

Despite this, the castle remained to Pasquale Caprera to whom his sister Maria succeeded. The Conti di Modica always governed by means of procurators and this is the reason, they seldom went to Alcamo.

When in 1802 the country became a royal-domain of the Bourbons, and as Teresa de Sylva died, the citizens thought to be free. In 1812, the castle was given back to the Conti di Modica and Maria II de Sylva, who gave the castle, as perpetual lease, to the city-state, in exchange of an annual rent.

The city-state used the castle as prison; so the castle had no longer an architectonic distribution.
