In the 4th Century, in the West Europe, the Gothic style diffused all over Sicily and in Alcamo too, the architecture was influenced by economic, social and political conditions and by the Romanesque tradition that still exists. Among the structures of the 4th Century we remember the ex-church of “S. Giacomo De Spada”, and in particular our Castle of “Conti di Modica”.

According to Mr Pietro Maria Rocca, this Castle was built during the period of Raimondo Peralta’s domination, as the coat of arms placed on a circular tower reminds Mr Peralta’s coat of arms, that is like the royal one but it is different only because the eagle’s head is turned on the left. The most recent building of the coat of arms dates back to 1750.

According to Mr. Mirabella the Castle was built in the Chiaramonte’s period as a fortress of Alcamo. This is the realest hypothesis, so, the building of the Castle can be dated back to 1350.
